The Nene or Hawaiian Goose is endemic to the Hawaiian Islands and is the official state bird. It is found on Maui, Kaua'i and Hawai'i. They evolved from the Canada Goose which probably migrated to the Hawaiian islands 500,000 years ago. The Hawaiian Goose eats leaves, seeds, fruit and flowers of grasses and shrubs.
