Loons and Grebes

Loons

Loons are excellent swimmers with webbed feet set far back on their bodies. They are easy to recognize because they sit low in the water. Loons are mainly fish eaters.

Grebes

Grebes are small to medium sized birds. Their bodies are designed for diving with the legs to the rear. This also means that it is difficult for them to walk on land. Their feet are large with broad lobes on the toes and small webs connecting the front three toes. Grebes' bills vary from thin to thick, which influences their diet. Their diet varies from fish to insects and small crustaceans.
