Avian, or bird tongues, have fascinated me since the first time I accidently took a picture of a hummingbird tongue. Since then, I have been trying to get more pictures of bird tongues. I have also wanted to learn more about these tongues which looked so different from ours.
In 2014, I took a 'Master Birding' class from Golden Gate Audubon and the California Academy of Sciences. One of our requirements was to write a paper and I decided to write mine on bird tongues. The topic turned out to be more fascinating then I thought and the result is a paper: "The Avian Tongue," Nancy Johnston, June, 2014.
