Killdeer must be the most common of the Plovers and they are predominately found in North America. They do winter along the northern coast of South America. You can see them throughout the U.S. Killdeer are recognizable by the shortish bill and the double row of black bands around its breast. If you are in an area where they have young, they will try and distract you with their calls.
