The Painted Whitestart used to be called the Painted Redstart but in the mid-1960s was moved to the Whitestarts. They are found in Central America and north to Arizona and New Mexico. One was found in Berkeley, CA. and many birders came to see it.

Diet consists mainly of insects. Males and females look similar but the male is slightly larger.
