The California Quail is a ground-dwelling bird that is found in western U.S. and into Canada and Mexico. It is the state bird of California. They like to take dust baths and they eat seeds and leaves.

I have seen California Quail at quite a few parks in the Bay Area and Northern California. They seem to like parks that have a lot of underbrush.
