The Acorn Woodpecker is found in western U.S., Mexico, Central America and northern South America. The Acorn Woodpecker is a permanent resident. The male and female Acorn Woodpecker look similar, but the male has a solid red crown while the female has a black band between the forehead and the red crown. Acorn Woodpeckers diet consists of insects, acorns, sap and fruits.
