The Violet Turaco is a large African bird that is also known as the Violet Plantain-eater. They are found in West Africa from Senegal through to Nigeria and also found in Chad and the Central African Republic.

Their diet consists of fruit, especially figs, leaves, buds, flowers, insects, snails and slugs. They are not strong fliers but can run through the branches.
