The Common Goldeneye is found throughout the norther hemisphere including North America and Eurasia. The Barrow's Goldeneye is very similar, but the male Common Goldeneye has more of an oval white spot under its eye instead of the crescent found on male Barrow's Goldeneyes. Like the Barrow's they eat aquatic insects, crustaceans, fish, fish eggs, and aquatic plants.
