The Micronesian Kingfisher is found on Guam, Pohnpei and Palau. There are three distinct subspecies. One of the subspecies, the Guam Kingfisher, is only breed in captivity because it is extinct in the wild. The three subspecies are similar but the amount and placement of the cinnamon coloration varies.

Their diet includes large insects, crustaceans, and lizards that they catch by swooping down from a perch on a large tree to capture their prey.
