Bolivar Peninsula

We visited Bolivar Peninsula five months after Hurricane Ike on Sep. 11, 2008 and the devastation was very evident. As some of the pictures show, there was not much was left. A lot of the places we were going to visit east of Galveston were closed and other places had far less birds than normal. A year and a half later and the change was dramatic. A lot had been rebuilt and we saw plenty of birds. For more pictures of the devastation see: Gulf Coast

We stopped a few times along the coast. I saw Sandwich Terns, Royal Terns, Ruddy Turnstones, and quite a few gulls. Next time, I will spend more time along the coast.
