The Black Phoebe is found from southwest Oregon and California, through Mexico, Central America and western South America. They are fairly common in the S.F. Bay Area. The sexes are similar. They mainly eat insects, but may eat very small fish. The pictures of the nestlings below were taken in my neighborhood. It was unclear why they died. Only one parent was feeding them, and maybe the parent could not get enough food to feed four nestlings.
