The Southern Cassowary is frequently known as the Double-wattled Cassowary. Other names include: Australian Cassowary and Two-wattled Cassowary. The male and female look similar but the female is larger and heavier.

They are found in tropical rainforest of Indonesia, New Guinea, and northeastern Australia where they diet is fruit. They are important element in the dispersal of seeds in the forests.
