Red-winged Blackbird - Agelaius phoeniceus

Red-winged Blackbirds are common throughout the continental U.S., part of Canada and Mexico. They are sexually dimoprhic and the black male with red-and-yellow shoulder patch. The female is blackish-brown on the upperparts and darkly barred on the lowerparts. The harsh vocalization of the male is very recognizable. They are polygamous and the male will mate with up to 10 females. The females will also mate with out males.

The Red-winged Blackbird is omnivorous. While it primarily eats plant materials, including seeds and fruit, it also eats insects, snails, frogs, eggs, carrion, worms, spiders, mollusks.
