The Marbled Murrelet is unique in the alcid family in that they nest in trees along the western North American coast. They are found in the waters off the northern coasts of North America and eastern Asia. They numbers have declined due to logging and are considered threatened. They feed on sand eels, herring, capelin and shiner perch.
