Stockings:
I like to use the 4-way nylon/spandex stretch net used in
dance
costumes. My local
Joann fabric store has lots of pastels that I
really like. I make
the stockings to fit tight on the doll leg and I
use stretch lace at the top.

I've never used embroidery floss for crochet, but generally
when I am using yarn of any description, I never make
knots. When I am
nearing the end of a piece of yarn I strand the new yarn behind the work and
catch it in the back of
the stitches (cover it with the stitches). Once it is firmly anchored, I start using
it and cover the tail of the old yarn in
the same way. If
this sounds too difficult, you could always thread the floss through a tapestry
needle and weave it
into the back of the
work that way.

Working with the guage on most patterns is very necessary, I
crochet tight also, the way I do it to get the right
guage is keep a doll handy and check the fit as I go,
usually when a pattern calls for a size 7 hook I use a size 6
and it comes out perfectly...sometimes a 5 is needed..
