Emberizine Sparrows with Allies

The sparrows in this category include the Emberizidae sparrows (called New World sparrows) and the introduced Old World sparrows (Passeridae) which are distant relatives of the Emberizidae. Most of the birds are small and brown with short, conical bills. They can be difficult to identify (for me at least). Except for Towhees, I have still a lot of sparrows to see and identify.

Towhees

There are six species of Towhees in the U.S. Towhees feed on the ground and show little sexual dimorphism.
